Head of Department of Bacteriology and Biochemistry
"Our department was listed as the Dept. of Bacteriology and Biochemistry. Many of those graduates in bacteriology and biochemistry distinguished themselves in the scientific world. Few men contributed more to scientific knowledge than Dr. Greaves, and also few were more respected." (Dr. Lewis Jones, 1998)
Joseph Greaves was the head of the Department of Bacteriology from 1913 to 1951. This was an extremely important period of development in the field of microbiology, including the development of antibiotics and dramatic new understandings of how infectious diseases are spread.
